The Jyvintokoli ~ "Equines of Fire" Known simply as the Jyvn, which is translated as 'Of Fire.' This is a tribe of fierce, tough equines, living in the southern end of Mortigi Desert with a very high emphasis on social standing. The tribe is dived based on bloodline. The Rangtou, or "the stolen," are first generation Jyvintokoli. None of their parents were Jyvn, and they are raised as part of the tribe. Revesh, or "Second Lives," are second generation, and at least one of their parents were Rangtou. The third category is simply called Jyvn, because their parents were Jyvn or Revesh. Their raids are increasing in number, and several members are quite eager to rid the world of misguided notions. Most of the Jyvn are ready for war and believe it is their tribes duty to rid the world of its evil.
Social Hierarchy ~Chieftain~ The ranking member that organizes and oversees the actions of the tribe, and is the Battle Chief in times of war, although he or she will delegate battlefield authority to the ranking members of the brotherhood. The Chieftain is responsible for the political aspect of war, and it is his/her job to unite the tribe under one flag. ~Priest or Priestess~ This equine is the religious leader and conducts the tribal ceremonies upon important celestial events. As the spiritual adviser of the tribe, they are often sought out for advice for everything from attack planning to marriage blessings. ~The Brotherhood~ The Brotherhood is a group of the elite defenders of the tribe. They operate heavily on respect, but have a strong sense of family within their ranks. Relying on a strict ranking system, every member greets one another as "brother" or "sister.” Most of the Brotherhood are stallions. ~ The Eventrial ~ Once a foal is stolen, the stealer is required to raise it. Each stolen foal is assigned a Eventrial, or 'Guiding Sight,' to help with the transition to their way of life. Each Eventrial helps to guide two to three stolen foals. They are the lowest ranked of the spiritual leaders, and each can consult a Halvatrial if they are lost. ~ The Fighters ~ What most of the tribe is called. They participate in raids, attend councils, and can debate how the war should be conducted. All tribe members receive basic fight and survival training from the Brotherhood.
Spiritual and Political Leaders ~Spiritual~ The members of the Spiritual ranks are called the Sights. They are led by the Priest or Preistess, chosen by Rrougvarn himself. Rrougvarn is their god, and his physical manifestation is through Roughvet, the red moon. The Halvatrial, or "Best Sight," are ranked right below the Priest or Priestess, and they help to guide the tribe and their five assigned Eventrial in less important matters. The Eventrial, or "Guiding Sight," are each assigned a group of tribe members who they help through tough situations and in spiritual matters. "Sight Apprentices," or Trialtali, are those learning the ways of the Sight. ~Political~ The Chieftain is chosen by tribal vote, and his (or her) main job is to get it functioning smoothly. Once everyone agrees in the direction only then can action be taken. A new Chieftain is chosen every ten years, or when the last one dies. It is a big event, and all the branches of the tribe gather mid-winter for the election.
Ethical, Moral, and Spiritual Beliefs They see themselves as the saviors of the weak, and the best friends of outcasts. They are a tight knit and loyal group of equines, and they treat every member as kin. They ‘rescue’ foals and hurt equines from the treacherous ways of the other tribes, and believe that it is their calling to save others from self-destruction. The greatly hate the Kingdom of Sunthara for its practice of slavery, and are currently waging a covert war against the Kingdom. They closely follow the waxing and waning of the moons, and plan according to their cycles for luck. The dawn of the red moon is witnessed nightly in times of war, and ceremonies are conducted to be inspirational to keep the tribe confident. Although Roughvet holds special importance to them, Lumara and Brevk are constantly watched as well.
Traditions and Rituals ~ Full Status ~ To be considered a full member of the tribe all equines must pass either the fighter exams, join the ranks of the Sights, or successfully join the Brotherhood. ~Mating Requirements~ Each partner has to be an active raiding member for six months, at the end of the time they design, execute, and successfully bring back the rewards of a raid. Together they steal and raise a foal under the guidance of an Eventrial for at least a year before the pairing is allowed.
Particular Characteristics Those with at least one full blooded line of decent from the Jyvn are likely to have a shimmer in their coat. It is strongly pronounced, helping them blend in the mirages of the desert, and it is also a dominant gene, meaning that one of their parents must show the characteristic. It is not seen throughout the rest of Val'thoron. Nearly all of the Jyvn who can trace their heritage back at least five generations have this trait. Tribal acceptance: shimmer As they are a desert tribe, they are mostly lanky, wiry, and tough. There are none of draft type, and most are of Orjan or Mortigi build.
