Below are the organized groups of Val'thoron. Each has its own characteristics, history, and beliefs. This is just a brief introduction; to learn more, click on the title for a group and you will be redirected to its page. (Click on the white link for the Academy)
~The Kingdom of Sunthara~ This Unicorn Monarchy stretches across miles of sandy grassland between the lower Helgrar Mountain Chain and the Mortigi Desert. The royal family leads the land, and is seen as the only ones who can secure the souls in the afterlife. Pegasi are captured from the wild, their flight feathers cut, and then kept as slaves. Most pegasi born in Sunthara never learn to fly, most never learn. Even their breeding is monitored by the unicorn masters. They use small, magick-infused stones, called Curyants, as tokens of trade.
The Gwyverth Tribe ~ "Ghost Unicorns" Often referred to as "Ghost Unicorns", these unicorns and pegasi keep to themselves, and are well known for their strange tattoos and their ability to materialize from seemingly nowhere. What most outsiders never get to see is the vast network of tunnels that runs beneath their section of the southern forest. These were slowly created by the springtime floods that turned the underground rock tunnels into treacherous caverns of roaring water and foaming death. The tunnels open up into the swampland in the southwest corner of their territory, home to swamp cats, alligators, snakes, and other dangers. However, it also borders Sunthara’s eastern edge, so it has its benefits.
~The Thoros Avarní~ They live just to the south of the Gray Area, covertly protecting and guarding it. As they defend the Gray Area, the Gray Area defends them with its magic. Once under protection they can't be affected by magic, but it is limited to the borders of the Gray Area and their territory. Once they reach one year, they pledge their secrets and are bound to silence for life. Only Guards and Wardens travel the Gray Area consistently, and they appear as wraiths out of the mist. In their very existence they must not have magical talent, or the free magick would corrupt their senses, quickly driving them insane. They are given abilities once inside the Gray Area; such as speechless communication and the ability to travel faster in their wraith-form. Their minds are also affected, and they are not only physically but mentally changed once within the Gray Area. As with any equine, too much time within it can, and will, drive them insane. Those lost to its mists become true wraiths, black shadows with glowing eyes and a driving blood lust for all who dare to venture within. They have been known to attack the Guards and Wardens, but since the Thoros Avarní are similar to wraiths once within the land's borders, mostly the two groups are at an uneasy peace.
The Jyvintokoli ~ "Equines of Fire" Known simply as the Jyvn, which is translated as 'Of Fire.' This is a tribe of fierce, tough equines, living in the southern end of Mortigi Desert with a very high emphasis on social standing. The tribe is dived based on bloodline. The Rangtou, or "the stolen," are first generation Jyvintokoli. None of their parents were Jyvn. Revesh, or "Second Lives," are second generation, and at least one of their parents were Rangtou. The third category is simply called Jyvn, because their parents were Jyvn or Revesh. The Jyvn steal equines from other tribes in an effort to ‘save’ them from the barbarisms of the outerworld. These stolen ones are the Rangtou, and are mostly foals. The Jyvn believe that they have a moral and social obligation to release others from their tribal origins, and in so doing those that stole a foal are required to raise it. For the first foal stolen each Jyvn has a "Eventrial" or "guiding sight" to help with the raising of the foal. Foals of the stolen have higher social standing than their parents, and are called Revesh or "second lives". Foals of the Revesh have normal social standing. Slowly their raids are increasing in number, and several are eager to rid the world of misguided notions. Most Jyvn are ready for war and believe it is their tribes duty.
~The Academy~ In the far northern pines a group of highly skilled magic users have banded together to pass on their knowledge. The Academy, as it is known, is located on an island in one of the Teayagar forest lakes. The staff take in young magick users to teach and to shelter. Are their motives as plain as once believed?
~Apply Upon Character Creation~ You do not have to know what magic your character possesses to come to the Academy. Create a character, and we will take you through the process of learning about magick. I can't guarantee that it will not be confusing, but we will try to make it as understandable as possible.
~Acceptance Only By Invitation~ ~Welcome to the Academy~
