Lavark Institution for Ranger Cadets
also known as: Ranger Cadet Lavark Institution
'The Institution' for short.
Training school for Sunthara to train Rangers. Only unicorns accepted, ...... more info to come- I'm falling asleep.
The Brotherhood of Assassination Arts and Combat Training
BAACT , or "B double A C.T." for short. Also known as just Combat School or Combat Camp by most of the Jyvn tribe. Most of the young equines who attend the camp jokingly call it the Nighthawks Camp, Camp of the Nighthawks, or the School of Slitthroat (SOS).
The members who graduate are known collectively as 'The Brotherhood,' even though there are quite a few female members. Rarely the brotherhood are called the 'Followers of Rougevet,' or the 'Followers of the Blood Moon.' Rougevet, which is the red or blood moon of Val'thoron, is a symbol of war for the Jyvintokoli.
This training camp is for the elite of the Jyvn who are willing to do whatever it takes to win the upcoming war with Sunthara. Young equines are accepted, both mares and stallions. Most of those in training are young stallions with something to prove, although there are a few mares also enrolled. It is a grueling, two to three year program that only a few graduate from. Most join at three, and the occasional equine will join at two years old. Yearlings are bared from joining because it is just to rigorous.
The goal of the camp is to create cold & calculating infiltrators and assassins. By the time they graduate, they should be able to manipulate others, turn even some of the most dire situations to their advantage, and kill without leaving a trace. This kind of cold-blooded efficiency comes with a price however. The equines who go through the rigorous training have learned to become completely detached from their emotions, and although they can be very convincing in their roles, they are far from showing true emotion. After their assignments are complete, they have a hard time re-connecting with family and friends. They tend to alienate others with their cold demeanor and lack of caring, but it is what they had to do to survive.
Both unicorns and pegasi are encouraged to join, although those who are sent into Sunthara are chosen for differing reasons. Both need to be able to be silent and invisible, able to blend into a crowd or into the night. They need to be able to take out a target with ruthless ability, and show no hesitation. All Sunthara infiltrators need to be quick thinkers and great actors, able to blend into a situation or be dismissed as inconsequential. Unicorns need to be smooth talkers, able to worm their way past road-blocks and holdups, but they can't be so smooth that they raise suspicions. They need to have excellent acting skills, and be able to befriend even the most wary contenders. Unicorns can't afford to have accents, and they are grilled every day until they can mimic the Sunthara way of talking perfectly. Pegasi slip in and then act 'wild,' allowing themselves to be taken captive and 'trained' by their captors. These infiltrators will often lie dormant for years, working their way up the ranks and into position. When the signal comes, they strike hard and fast, taking out their target and then fleeing the vicinity. Often when deep in Sunthara, they will make contact with a unicorn sleeper, who hides them away until their flight feathers can grown back. Flight feathers usually will take three months to grow back, four to be safe. Unicorn sleepers are few and far between, so often the pegasi have to travel for several days, sometimes up to a week, before receiving shelter. Even then safety is not guaranteed, because if a sleeper is found often their place will often be watched for weeks before the Rangers move in to capture any who might be present. Most pegasi sleepers will never come close to a target that is important enough to risk their cover for. All pegasi sleepers will often lie in wait for months to a year before contact is made with a unicorn infiltrator. Most of the pegasi infiltrators jobs are to gather intelligence and pass it on to their contacts. The longest any unicorn or pegasi will remain on mandatory assignment is five years. Some however, will remain longer if they believe they are close to their target or their position cannot be replaced.
Elite ~ Any members of the Brotherhood who achieve this title are the best of them. There are relatively few of them, due to the rigorous tests any who wish this rank are required to pass. All must be extremely skilled in combat, subterfuge, and have a vast amount of knowledge at their disposal. They must also choose one subject, fairly narrow, to learn and to study to the furthest degree possible.
Masters ~ Extensively skilled in combat and evasion, the rank received upon returning from a sleeper position in Sunthara.
Members ~ They have completed at least one year of being a Junior member, have trained well, can effectively work in a team or solo, and can be trusted to follow through on even the most difficult of commands.
Junior members ~ One step up from a Trainee, they have passed the test to become a member of the Brotherhood. They take on additional responsibilities, assignments, and can begin to go on solo missions.
Trainers ~ Can be of any rank except for Junior. They take on a class, usually from four to six equines, to train and to teach from their second to fourth years.
Trainees ~ Those accepted into The Brotherhood of Assassination Arts and Combat Training (BAACT) or Combat Camp, for several years in preparation to induction into the Brotherhood. Not all of them make it; in fact quite a few fail.
Infiltrators ~ There are two kinds, Sleepers and Active. They are always graduates of Combat Camp, and when they first enter the post they are between four and six years old. The longest any infiltrator has to stay in Sunthara is five years; however if they hold a valuable position and can not be replaced they are often asked to stay longer.
Active is only for unicorns, and they slip into guarded circles to obtain information. They also can be tasked with assassination; but if they are too close to the target they are immediately pulled following the completion of the mission. Handlers are the only ones with direct contact with the intelligence gatherers, and their job is only to pass along information.
Pegasi are always Sleepers, due to their limited ability to control their movements. They are only considered 'Active' for short periods when they can slowly gather information, or can take out a target if an opportunity presents itself. Unicorn Sleepers are a much different story. They are never active, never assassins, and never pass along information. Theirs might be the hardest position to be in, because anything they hear must be ignored. They do not have any contacts, and are positioned 'cold' in Sunthara. Once an Infiltrator, unicorn or pegasi, is burned, they can go to a unicorn Sleeper who will provide a safe haven until it is safe to move.
